Gulfstream Aerospace has announced that its Gulfstream G500 and Gulfstream G600 have received steep-approach certification from the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), enabling operators to access a wider range of airports worldwide.
This certification significantly enhances operational flexibility, particularly for airports with challenging runway profiles, such as London City Airport and Lugano Airport. These airports require aircraft to perform steep descent angles and precise low-speed handling, making certification a key capability for business jets operating in constrained environments.
Mark Burns, President of Gulfstream Aerospace, highlighted that the G500 and G600 already deliver exceptional performance and efficiency. With the addition of EASA steep-approach certification, European operators can now benefit from expanded route options, including access to more remote and capacity-restricted destinations.
The G500 and G600 had previously secured steep-approach certification from the Federal Aviation Administration in 2023 and 2024, respectively. To achieve both FAA and EASA approvals, the aircraft successfully demonstrated their ability to perform controlled steep descents, maintain stable low-speed handling, and execute short-field landings under demanding operational conditions.
These capabilities are particularly valuable for business aviation customers who require direct access to city-center airports or geographically constrained locations. By enabling operations at airports with strict approach requirements, the certification reduces travel time and enhances overall mission efficiency.
The global fleet of G500 and G600 aircraft continues to grow, with more than 350 aircraft currently in service. Collectively, the fleet has accumulated over 350,000 flight hours, completed approximately 173,000 landings, and achieved more than 120 city-pair speed records—demonstrating strong operational performance and reliability.
The latest certification further reinforces Gulfstream’s commitment to innovation and operational excellence, ensuring that its aircraft remain at the forefront of business aviation capability. By combining advanced aerodynamics, cutting-edge avionics, and superior performance, the G500 and G600 continue to set new standards in the ultra-modern business jet segment.
