The Eurofighter Typhoon programme has achieved a historic milestone, surpassing one million flying hours, marking a significant achievement for one of the world’s most advanced combat aircraft. At the same time, the EJ200 engine has reached two million engine flying hours, reflecting the aircraft’s twin-engine configuration and extensive operational use.

Eurofighter Jagdflugzeug GmbH confirmed the milestone based on compiled data from the International Weapon System Support Centre (IWSSC). The achievement highlights more than three decades of collaboration, innovation, and operational excellence across Europe’s defence industry.

Jorge Tamarit-Degenhardt, CEO of Eurofighter, described the milestone as a testament to the aircraft’s enduring performance, adaptability, and critical role in today’s evolving security environment. He emphasized that the achievement reflects the trust placed in the Typhoon by partner nations and export customers, as well as the dedication of pilots, engineers, and technicians who support its operations daily.

The Eurofighter Typhoon continues to play a central role in global defence, serving as a cornerstone platform for NATO and allied air forces. Its multi-role capability allows it to perform a wide range of missions, including air policing, combat operations, joint patrols, and Quick Reaction Alert duties across Europe and the Middle East.

Currently, approximately 80 percent of operational air missions conducted by Eurofighter core nations are flown by Typhoon aircraft, underscoring its reliability and mission readiness. The aircraft’s ability to operate across diverse mission profiles highlights its flexibility in modern warfare scenarios.

Air Vice Marshal Simon Ellard (Ret.), General Manager of the NATO Eurofighter and Tornado Management Agency (NETMA), noted that each flying hour represents the collective effort of a vast network of personnel, from pilots and ground crews to industry partners, all contributing to maintaining the aircraft’s high performance standards.

Parallel to this achievement, Eurojet Turbo GmbH celebrated the EJ200 engine reaching two million flying hours. CEO Ralf Breiling highlighted that this milestone demonstrates the engine’s reliability, technical excellence, and the strength of partnerships supporting the Typhoon programme.

The milestone reinforces the Eurofighter programme as one of Europe’s largest and most successful defence collaborations. As global security challenges continue to evolve, the Typhoon’s proven performance, interoperability, and advanced capabilities ensure it remains a key asset for allied air defence operations worldwide.
